Major and her 2009 filly.
Major and her 2009 filly.
Majorhol is a direct daughter of one of the all time top producing barrel racing sires 'Gasohol' and maternal grandaughter of Major Bonanza.
Bred by Dee Butterfield, 'Major' carries the Lightning Brand and has the pedigree and conformation that make for an outstanding producer of competitive barrel horses. She was purchased in the fall of 2008 in foal to 'Meltonian' and had a beautiful filly in the spring of 2009.
If all goes well Becky is planning on crossing Major with 'Perfect Possibility' (check him out under the link: Butterfield Performance Quarter Horses) for a 2011 foal.
Major spent 2 months at Randy Ophus Performance Horses for Training in the fall of 2009, going along with our theory that our riding sound broodmares have to be able to earn their keep under saddle when they are not carrying foals.
True to her Gasohol and Major Bonanza breeding she has sweeping gaits that promise speed and the agility needed to 'turn and burn'.
Major is a tall and powerful mare and we're sure that once her foals are old enough to hit the arena she will leave her mark in the performance world through her offspring.
And there is a slight possibility that, even between raising foals, Major herself might turn up at jackpots. Being green broke at the age of eight has the tendency to slow down the progress a little, and the fact that she is incredibly valuable as a broodmare could hamper plans to turn her into a well patterned barrel horse herself, but that won't stop Becky from putting miles on Major under saddle and to just wait and see......
